EES Home Design was started in West Elwood, Indiana in 1996 to provide central Indiana's small builders and homeowners a source for Computer Aided building design at a time when many were building their projects with only rough sketches or no plans at all (!) They literally didn't know what they would get until construction was nearly complete.
The initial project was to create a plan and 3D renderings for the attic level of a new home that was being constructed. The builder was frustrated because his crew had framed the attic interior 3 times and each time the homeowner wasn't happy with the rooms that resulted. The computer generated sketches were able to show the homeowner how the complex interaction of walls and sloped ceilings were going to look, and the builder could see from the cross section views that all clearances required by the building code were being satisfied.
From that point on, referrals came in from builders and homeowners who wanted the benefits of three dimensional design and thoughtful space arrangements that considered codes, furniture arrangements, views, prevailing winds, and every item of the "wish list" that was often provided. EES Home Design uses Chief Architect design software to efficiently layout plans in 3D and render multiple views and options quickly.
EES stands for Equity Enhancement Services - The name was created from a conversation with a realtor friend who pointed out that some of his clients were not necessarily improving the value of their properties with the changes they were making, but that they were not able to explore all of the options possible because the design process was too cumbersome. EES would change that by making the exploration of different designs less costly through design software automation.
Ron Van Sickle, CPBD is based in Austin, TX after operating EES Home Design for 10 years in Tipton, IN. Ron is working on projects in Central Indiana, and are completed along with projects from Central Texas and other locations around the country because modern internet technology has allowed the easy exchange of design information across any distance.
Ron holds a Batchelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, and followed a career path from designing integrated circuits, to locating the integrated circuits on printed circuit boards, to using that software to locate walls on floorplans.
An enjoyment of his elective courses in Architectural History at Purdue fed an interest in building design that was eventually satisfied by starting EES. This career path allows Ron to take more analytical approach to design that helps when considering energy efficiency, materials usage and site placement.
CPBD stands for Certified Professional Building Designer, a designation granted by the National Council of Building Designer Certification. In addition to experience requirements, CPBD's must pass a tough two-day exam and maintain continuing education credits each year.
Ron is a member of the Texas Institute of Building Design and American Institute of Building Design and participates in monthly meetings of the Central Texas Chapter to work with other designers in efforts to improve the design industry.
